Engaging Our Community in Atlanta

After School Tutoring through LaAmistad

Covenant volunteers assist Latino students in strengthening their academic and life skills through devotional time, homework time, and activities to enhance their English literacy. We also work closely with the families to ensure that they are receiving the resources they need to be successful and productive residents in their community by offering language services, resources, and legal aid.

DAYS & TIMES: Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00pm-5:00pm

SERVES: Students from E. Rivers Elementary School

MEETS: Trinity Anglican Church

REQUIREMENTS: To volunteer, you must be 13 years of age. No Spanish or tutoring experience required.

Habitat for Humanity 

In cooperation with other churches, Covenant participates in building homes as part of Habitat for Humanity. Habitat brings together people with resources and people in need to build simple, decent, affordable houses. The homes are sold to those in need at no profit, through no-interest loans.

You are invited to get involved in this wonderful hands-on ministry through Covenant Presbyterian. There are jobs and tools available for all skills and training if you would like to learn something new.

DAYS & TIMES: Saturdays, 7:30am-3:30pm in May and June

REQUIREMENTS: To volunteer, you must be 16 years of age. No construction experience required.

Buckhead Christian Ministry

BCM was founded in 1987 by Covenant and four other churches as an emergency assistance provider. Today Covenant volunteers with BCM and collects weekly donations that are delivered by Covenant members. The Covenant Youth Group sponsors the Souper Bowl of Caring Drive each February to benefit BCM.

BCM’s mission is to provide emergency and housing assistance to individuals and families of all faiths, in particular addressing the needs of low-income workers and helping them to achieve stability. Through the provision of food, clothing, financial assistance and life skills education, BCM seeks to prevent homelessness for individuals and families in crisis.

BCM serves more than 8,500 individuals of all faiths annually. They are people you encounter on a daily basis — waitresses, clerks, janitors, and health care assistants — and reside in 15 zip codes throughout metro Atlanta.

Central Night Shelter

The Central Night Shelter provides food, shelter and compassion for nearly 100 men in Atlanta every night from November 1 through the March 31. The Central Presbyterian facility houses 65 guests and the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception houses 30 guests. Covenant volunteers to serve these guests throughout the fall and winter.

DAYS & TIMES: Dinner Volunteers and Overnight Volunteers (7pm-6:30am), November 1 – March 31

REQUIREMENTS: All are welcome. Children, youth, and adults can assist with bagged lunches and dinner service. Adults are invited to serve as overnight volunteers.
